Lakshman Sagar, Raipur

Lakshman Sagar, Raipur

Initially crafted as a hunting lodge for the Royal Family of Rajasthan, the Lakshman Sagar resort oozes of traditional architecture and design. It is located at the fringe of the Badlands of India, and although the décor and hospitality is similar to that of a hunting lodge, they have adopted a conversationalist view of the surroundings.

The lodge was built in the 19th century by the then Thakur of Raipur, Lakshman Singh Ji as an abode for noble guests during their visits. Lakshman Sagar is a continuation of the hospitality traditions initiated by the House of Raipur with a sustainable view of the heritage and environment.

A key feature of this resort is the Zanana (women) quarters and the Mardana (men) quarters that are historically dedicated to women and men. These quarters lay down indications of Rajasthani grandeur and highlight traditional cultural aspects such as pardah, mehfils and baithak. This resort subtly depicts the typical hunting lodges during the days of the Raj, oozing with antiquity. Several such sites are on display such as the machans used for tiger spotting, man-made lake for attracting game and much more, to reflect the culture.

ACCOMODATION

There are 12 cottages in Lakshman Sagar, divided into two clusters on either side of a beautiful lake. These are 900 sq. ft each.  The cottages are wisely placed on the topography of the land and every cottage has a private splash pool, overlooking the lake, creating an amazing panoramic view for guests. The guests will be immersed in a completely luxurious, yet traditional, stay.

The interiors are furnished using local influences taking inspiration from village life while also creating an atmosphere of a hunting lodge. This includes large wind chime installations, brass vessels, rolling pins and butter churners and more. The raw materials for the cottages such as wood, stone and mud are also sourced locally, following the zero kilometre concept and being in tandem with “slow” lifestyle of the resort.

DINING

The idea of dining in Lakshman Sagar is based on “slow food”, and includes special hunting recipes of the Royal Family. The dining experiences are also customized.
